Louise Noack Gray

Louise Noack Gray (1909 - 2000) was active/lived in California.  Louise Gray is known for Impressionist landscape and child portrait painting.

Louise Noack Gray was born in Oakland, California - a third-generation Californian and the eldest of four siblings.  She grew up in Stockton, California where her father was an early mechanical engineer who designed, manufactured, installed, and maintained water pumps.  Although Louise was always interested in art, she was discouraged from pursuing an artistic career as a young woman.

In 1928, Louise married Ralph Nichols Gray.  Around 1929-1930, Louise began to start painting seriously.  Both Louise and Ralph were aspiring artists; however, with the hardships of the Depression, the couple found it difficult to pursue fine art while trying to support a new baby.  Louise attempted the pursuit nonetheless, taking art classes at Stockton College (now Delta State); Ralph, although skilled at both fine painting and craftsmans   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 4764 characters.]  Artist bio
